Members of the Bay Men’s Club collected and sold lightly used athletic shoes (indoor and outdoor soccer cleats, football cleats and similar), soccer shin guards and baseball and softball gloves as a fundraiser for the group.

Collection boxes were set up at Bay Lanes, True Value Hardware, Java Bay and Arthur’s Shoes, and community members donated more than 120 items. Unsold items were donated to charity.

Organizer Kelly Brewer said, “We have some good ideas for next year and think we can inspire a bigger turnout with a few minor additions to what we are doing.  Most importantly, it felt good what we were doing, and I am sure all agree.”

BMC to Play Vintage Base Ball Match to Celebrate Bay Bicentennial

Saturday, September 11th, 2010

The Bay Men’s Club has formed a Vintage Base Ball team named the Bay Villagers and we will be competing against the Cleveland Blues Base Ball Club in a historical celebration match following the 1860′s rules of base ball.

The event will take place at 12 Noon in the open field of Cahoon Park on Saturday, October 9th, 2010. The Honorable Deborah Sutherland, Mayor of Bay Village will be throwing out the first pitch for our historical match.

The Cleveland Blues are an elite Vintage Base Ball club and recently won the coveted 2010 National Silver Ball Championship.  The Bay Villagers have their work cut out for them!

1860′s “base ball” rules include several interesting differences from modern “baseball” rules.  Gloves and other protective gear are not used, foul ticks are not strikes, the striker can request high or low strikes from the hurler, a base-runner cannot safely overrun 1st base, bunting and sliding are not permitted, pitches are underhanded in a low arc as to allow proper striking and a striker is “dead” when a batted ball is caught on the fly or on one bound off the ground (fair or foul).  It is a gentleman’s game focused on sportsmanship and camaraderie.

Come and share in this experience.

BMC dues are due

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Hello to all current and former Bay Men’s Club members.

With summer fleeting, we are looking forward to another exciting year at Bay Men’s Club.

If you are not aware, BMC dues have changed. The board eliminated all payments at the door for meetings. Dues are now $50 for all members ages 18-60 and $40 for all members over the age of 60.

Incredibly, this includes all food and beverages for the entire year (10 meetings)!

We encourage you to tell your friends, neighbors and associates about our great club and reasonable dues.

If you wish to send a check, mail it to the BMC, 31103 Clairwood Dr., Bay Village, OH 44140, or you can bring your dues payment to the first meeting on September 3th.

We look forward to seeing you this year!

More than 400 people recently attended the first-ever “Kids and Cops Day” in Cahoon Memorial Park, and members of the Bay Men’s Club were on hand to help arrest hunger and thirst.

Bay Men’s Club members (left to right) Dave Adams, Wayne Douglas, Chris Edelman and Greg Sereta, cooked and served food donated by area retailers as a service to the community.

Law enforcement personnel from Bay Village, Avon Lake, Westlake and Rocky River, as well as the Cuyahoga County bomb squad and SWAT team, were on hand. Boats, helicopters, bomb-disarming robots and police dogs were among the highlights from the event, which was designed to help children understand, appreciate and feel comfortable with their local law enforcement authorities, according to event coordinator Shawn May of the Bay Village Police Department.
